Ethics = Intuition + Knowledge

Updated: Jun 25, 2018

Think ethics is simply intuitive? Think again.

AFP Chief Advocacy and Strategy Officer Jason Lee, who spent 17 months as AFP’s interim president and CEO, writes that ethical intuition is best built on a foundation of knowledge:

“When I present sessions on fundraising ethics, I emphasize that ethical fundraising is something that you learn. Intuition alone is not an ideal means of weighing matters of ethical importance. But once you have learned a framework for ethics (e.g., studying the AFP Code of Ethical Standards and complementary materials), you can mesh knowledge with intuitive thought to better tackle ethical quandaries.”
